Accra:An interim technical team has been appointed to lead the Black Stars, Ghana's men's national football team, as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The announcement came from a joint statement by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Black Stars coach search committee.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the interim team will be headed by Lars Kim Bjorkegren, the current head coach of Ghana's women's national football team. Supporting him will be former Black Stars players Ibrahim Tanko, Godwin Attram, and Fatawu Dauda. The statement emphasized that their diverse backgrounds and skills would provide the necessary leadership and support for the team's preparations.

The need for an interim team arose after Carlos Queiroz left his position as head coach earlier this month by mutual agreement, following a series of disappointing results in the AFCON qualifiers. Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Cote d'Ivoire and a 4-2 loss at home to The Gambia, resulting in their current position at the bottom of Group C with no points after two rounds.

The Black Stars are set to face Somalia in two crucial matches next month as they aim to improve their standing in the qualifiers.
