Grootfontein: Newly-elected Mayor of Grootfontein, Moritz Gaingob, has disclosed that the municipality is working towards appointing a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the town before May 2026. The CEO position has been vacant since the departure of former CEO Kisco Sinvula in 2023.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Gaingob emphasized the importance of filling this role, as the CEO is crucial in implementing council resolutions and decisions from meetings. "We need a CEO to be appointed before May this year. This is for effective service delivery, and we are busy with that matter as a full council," Gaingob stated.

The mayor also noted that on 20 January 2026, the council reached out to the Office of the Minister of Urban and Rural Development to inquire about the progress of the CEO's appointment. The previous council had already conducted interviews and recommended a candidate to the minister in October 2025. Gaingob confirmed that the name of the sole candidate who met the job requirements was submitted to the minister's office.

In the interim, senior municipal official Indileni Lungameni has been serving as acting CEO since 2023. The newly elected Grootfontein local authority councillors, who will serve alongside Gaingob for the next five years, include Casuis Namaseb, chairperson of the management committee, Josef Ausiku, Deon van Blerk, Bernadine Nangolo, Cleophas Kamukuiju, and Susanna Schwartz.
