Windhoek:The Namibian Police in the Hardap Region over the weekend recorded a fatal road crash, a violent assault, and a case of fraud.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the weekend crime and incident report issued on Sunday by national police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, detailed the occurrences. A 39-year-old male died following a single-vehicle accident on Friday on the road between Stampriet and Aranos. It is alleged that the driver, operating a Ford Ranger single cab with Mariental registration, lost control of the vehicle approximately six kilometers from Stampriet after the right front tire burst, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a tree.

The driver, identified as Wolf-Diether Kuhn, was traveling with five passengers, all of whom sustained serious injuries and were taken to Mariental State Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Kuhn succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care. The police have registered a case of culpable homicide, alternatively reckless or negligent driving, and investigations are ongoing.

In another incident in Rehoboth on Friday afternoon, a 27-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing another man with a knife in front of a shop in Block A. The victim suffered open wounds to the head and left hand. The suspect is scheduled to make a first appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate's Court on Monday as police investigations continue.

Furthermore, police are investigating a fraud case after a woman from Rehoboth reportedly lost N.dollars 15,490 in a scam. The resident from Block D was contacted by an unknown suspect on Friday who falsely claimed she had won a 'lottery'. The suspect allegedly instructed her to dial a series of codes on her cellphone to claim the prize money. Instead of receiving winnings, N.dollars 15,490 was withdrawn from her bank account without her consent. No arrests have been made, and the stolen money has not been recovered as police investigations continue.
