Mariental: Members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Hardap Region gathered at the regional headquarters parade grounds in Mariental to commemorate officers who died in the line of duty.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Commemorative Day of Remembrance is part of activities leading up to the International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Officers, also known as Interpol Blue Day, observed annually on 07 March at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in Windhoek. Police officers from various units and family members of the deceased officers attended the event in their honour.
Welcoming the officers, Mariental Police Station commander Eglin Jossop said the gathering served as an important moment to reflect on the service and sacrifice of officers who dedicated their lives to protecting the community. Jossop emphasized that the fallen officers' contributions to policing in the Hardap Region and Namibia at large will continue to be remembered. 'We are here today because we share a common understanding of remembering and celebrating what Marvin Losper, Gerson Hepute, and Mercia Louw did not only for Hardap police, but also for the country,' he stated.
Acting Hardap regional commander, Deputy Commissioner Pamela Witbooi, in her keynote address, said the day was dedicated to honouring brave men and women who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. 'We gather here today not to dwell in despair, but to perform a sacred duty to commemorate, honour, and pay tribute to the brave men and women who answered a higher calling and paid the ultimate price,' Witbooi said.
She highlighted that policing requires officers to place themselves between danger and the safety of communities, often at great personal risk. 'Unlike most professions, law enforcement is not just a job; it is a commitment to stand between safety and danger. The officers we honour today knew the risks and willingly embraced them,' she noted.
Witbooi also acknowledged the families of the fallen officers, saying their sacrifice and resilience remain an integral part of the law enforcement family. The commemorative ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment from serving officers to uphold the values of integrity, courage, and service exemplified by their fallen colleagues.
