Washington: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned the incident earlier in the day that injured three Ghanaian peacekeepers of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The peacekeepers were wounded inside their position in Al Qawzah, southwestern Lebanon, amidst heavy firing.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Secretary-General emphasized that the safety and security of UN personnel and property must be respected at all times, and those responsible for the incident must be held accountable. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN chief, reiterated this in a statement, stressing the importance of respecting the inviolability of UN installations.

Dujarric also conveyed Guterres's wishes for a swift and full recovery for the injured peacekeepers. The United Nations continues to urge all parties involved to de-escalate immediately and adhere fully to their obligations under Security Council Resolution 1701, which was adopted in 2006.
