Hardap: The Hardap Region has completed most of its preparations for Wednesday's regional councils and local authority elections, with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) still working to secure the remaining vehicles needed for full deployment. Speaking to Nampa on Monday, regional electoral officer Willem Uirab said the region has 55,000 registered voters and is preparing to deploy about 100 polling teams across all constituencies.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Uirab stated, "The overall readiness of the region is that we are quite ready. We only have a shortage of less than 15 vehicles in the entire region." He noted that the ECN requires 176 vehicles to fully support election operations, with the current shortfall affecting mainly the Daweb and Rehoboth Rural constituencies.
Uirab confirmed that all sensitive and non-sensitive election materials are already in Hardap and that full deployment of teams will begin on Tuesday. He added that polling officials have completed their training and police officers involved in election security have begun casting their ballots under the special voting process. "The police have shown their readiness. They have started to vote, meaning they will be ready by 26 November," he said.
Special voting took place on Monday for police and election officials who will work outside their constituencies on polling day. Uirab acknowledged that turnout was low, stating, "The turnout is very slow. It is only a limited number of people who have completed the necessary administrative work."
Voting on Wednesday will run from 07h00 to 21h00, and all voters who remain in the queue at closing time will be allowed to cast their ballot. Uirab urged residents to prepare ahead of the election by keeping their voter cards ready and avoid waiting until the last minute.
