Kampala: The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government held a forum on Saturday to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the national security law's promulgation and implementation in Hong Kong.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the national security law, implemented on June 30, 2020, has been pivotal in transitioning Hong Kong from chaos to stability. Xia Baolong, head of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, emphasized during the forum that this law has ushered in a new era of "one country, two systems."
Xia stated that the law protects national sovereignty, security, and development interests, while maintaining stability and prosperity in Hong Kong. It also safeguards the interests of both residents and foreign investors. He highlighted the importance of fully and faithfully implementing the "one country, two systems" principle to ensure a secure environment conducive to Hong Kong's development.
HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee praised the role of the national security law, along with the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, in providing stability. This stability, according to Lee, allows Hong Kong to continue its development and reforms, contributing to the broader goals of building a strong nation and advancing national rejuvenation.
The forum was attended by approximately 2,000 individuals from various communities across Hong Kong.
