Horse racing derby at Okondjatu this weekend

The Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) will host a horse racing competition at the Okahatjipara Turf Club situated on the outskirts of Okondjatu settlement in the Okakarara constituency on Saturday.

NHRA President Martinus de Waal on Thursday confirmed the event, saying it forms part of the biggest NHRA preparatory event set fo4 Chaka in the Omaheke Region next month. Preparations for that even are underway, including the registration of horses from different clubs.

According to De Waal, the NHRA has set aside a whopping N.dollars 100 000 to be competed for in over 15 races, comprising of short and long distances.

‘The money set aside for the competition will be disbursed among the winning horses as we expect most, if not all, our affiliates this weekend at Okondjatu,’ he said.

The horses will compete in the Nambred beginner, Nambred maiden, Nambred graduation, D-division, A-division and Thoroughbred divisions.

De Waal said this weekend they expect top performers like the popular Starlile from the Okahandja Racing Club, Stebbins of the Professor Supporters Club, French Leave from Aminuis Racing, You Touched My Heart from Riverside Racing, Time Master from Khomas Turf Club, Visigoth of Aminuis Racing and Kakondeka from the Kaondeka Horseracing Supporters club.

The entry fee is N.dollar 50, with events set to kick-off at 10h00.
