Windhoek: Swakop Uranium has announced its ambitious plan to enhance its contribution to Namibia's economy through the Husab+ vision, which focuses on employment creation, local business development, innovation, and water security. The announcement was made by the company's executive vice president, Irvinne Simataa, during the launch of the 2025 Sustainability Report.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Simataa highlighted that the mine has transitioned from being Namibia's largest construction project to becoming the world's third-largest single-producing uranium operation since starting production ten years ago. The operation currently supports approximately 4,800 jobs and contributes between N.dollars 7 billion and N.dollars 9 billion annually to local procurement.

Simataa emphasized that while uranium production remains central to the business, the broader value created beyond mining will increasingly define success. Husab+ represents the next phase of development aimed at increasing benefits for employees, communities, and businesses.

He explained that the "plus" in Husab+ signifies additional value through more jobs, enhanced skills, innovation, local enterprise development, water security, environmental stewardship, and community well-being. The company has already invested over N.dollars 30 million in community programs and more than N.dollars 40 billion in development projects since the mine's construction.

Simataa described the sustainability report as more than a compliance document, but rather a statement of accountability reflecting the company's values and commitment to responsible, transparent, and sustainable operations. Swakop Uranium intends to build on the past decade's achievements while ensuring long-term value for future generations.
