Oshakati: Newly appointed Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge has called upon residents to collaborate with his administration to accelerate socio-economic development, combat inequality, and ensure inclusive growth throughout the region. He made the remarks during his welcoming ceremony held in Oshakati on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Iipinge emphasised the need to strengthen public service systems and hold individuals accountable for outcomes. "I am urging everyone - leaders, citizens, and institutions alike - to work together to accelerate socio-economic development, combat inequality, and ensure that no one is left behind," he stated.
He outlined several key areas of focus for his tenure, including investing in people, improving infrastructure, growing the economy, creating employment opportunities, and protecting vulnerable populations. Iipinge also affirmed his administration's commitment to aligning regional programmes with national priorities, ensuring all initiatives are people-centred and results-driven.
The governor further explained that the Swapo Party Election Manifesto 2024, with its theme of "Unity in Diversity, Natural Resources Beneficiation and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development," will serve as the blueprint for socio-economic development. He said the manifesto has been translated into the sixth National Development Plan (NDP 6), which will guide the way to equitable prosperity for all in the Oshana Region.
Meanwhile, former Governor Elia Irimari expressed satisfaction with his six-year tenure, stating that he leaves office with no regrets. Irimari noted that he successfully established a blueprint for the region's development in collaboration with regional leadership. He highlighted significant progress in water infrastructure, road networks, and educational investments during his time as governor.
"I have no regrets as I leave this office, nor have I had anyone talking behind my back that I have not completed my tasks given to me," he said. He added that he successfully completed all assigned tasks and oversaw the implementation of various programmes. Irimari also indicated his intention to pursue new opportunities that arose during his governorship.
