Windhoek: Four people, including a nine-month-old boy, died in separate incidents reported by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) over the weekend. The incidents occurred in the Erongo, Ohangwena, and Omusati regions, involving a fatal stabbing, two road fatalities, and a domestic fire.

According to Namibia Press Agency, on Saturday at approximately 20h30 on the Oshikuku-Oshakati road at Okaku village, a 28-year-old pedestrian, Kalola Protasius, was fatally struck by a vehicle. The driver, a 27-year-old male in a white Honda Fit, was travelling from Oshikuku to Oshakati when the incident occurred. The driver sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalised at Oshikuku. The deceased's next of kin have been notified.

In a separate incident in Ondobe, at around 12h22 on Saturday, a case of culpable homicide and arson was reported following an incident involving two young boys, aged four and seven, who were allegedly playing with matches while home alone. 'They accidentally ignited a traditional thatched room, causing the fire to spread to four others, resulting in the death of a nine-month-old boy sleeping in one of the rooms. The body was taken to Eenhana State Mortuary, and next of kin were informed,' the police said.

In Swakopmund on Sunday at about 01h30 on Tsovarite Street, Jaco Paulus van Staden, a 49-year-old motorbike rider, lost control of his motorbike and collided with an oncoming government ambulance. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the ambulance driver was unharmed. Both drivers were licensed, and the next of kin have been notified.

Additionally, a murder case was reported on Friday at approximately 20h30 in Etalaleko, Iipandahangano village, Outapi Constituency. A 26-year-old male suspect allegedly used an Okapi knife to fatally stab 44-year-old Teofilus Kapilu in the chest. The suspect has been arrested, and the weapon was recovered. The body was taken to the Okahao Police Station mortuary for an autopsy.

The investigations are ongoing.
