Beijing: China’s economy is well-positioned to maintain its positive growth trajectory, supported by its strong workforce and vibrant enterprises, said Albert Park, chief economist of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in a recent interview with Xinhua.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Park highlighted the Chinese economy’s capabilities, emphasizing the strengths of its workforce and enterprises. While attending the East Asia Forum 2025 and Talk China Seminar in Beijing, he expressed confidence in the resilience of China’s economy, despite facing some challenges.

Park praised the Chinese government’s recent incremental policies aimed at stimulating the economy, noting that the emphasis on boosting consumption sends a positive signal. He stressed the importance of continuing to push forward in this direction.

He also mentioned that redistributing resources to low-income households and strengthening social protection programs are crucial measures. These steps can spur consumption and build a more robust soc
ial safety net, thereby supporting economic growth.

Additionally, Park observed a rebound in investor sentiment toward Chinese equities, attributing this to China’s technological leadership in digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI). He also noted increased confidence in the stability and management of the U.S.-China relationship.

“Reduced geopolitical uncertainty may be encouraging more investment into China, which is still an economy growing at a decent pace,” Park stated.

At the seminar, themed “Harnessing AI to Promote High-Quality Development,” Park praised China’s “AI Plus” initiative for its potential to integrate AI across society and drive economic growth. He highlighted China’s leadership in the AI field, particularly in semiconductor production, data centers, and large language models.

Park also emphasized China’s active role in shaping global AI governance frameworks and promoting international cooperation. Citing an ADB report titled “Harnessing Digital Transformation for Good,” he po
inted out the tremendous opportunities AI presents for low-income countries. He urged efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and workforce training on digital skills.

“The ADB is really focusing on that front to help developing countries throughout Asia realize opportunities brought about by AI,” Park added.
