Jill Biden arrives in Namibia

The First Lady of the United States of America, Jill Biden, arrived in Namibia on Wednesday for a three-day visit.

Biden and her delegation touched down at the Hosea Kutako International Airport around 14h30.

At the airport, she was welcomed by First lady Monica Geingos and Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Ndaitwah, among other dignitaries.

While in Namibia, Biden’s engagements will focus on the empowerment of women and youth, efforts to address food insecurity, and promoting the two first ladies’ shared democratic values.

According to the programme issued by the United States of America’s Embassy in Namibia, upon arrival in the country, Biden will join Geingos in visiting Heroes’ Acre.

Afterwards, Biden will meet with President Hage Geingob and First Lady Geingos.

On Thursday, she will visit an organisqtion in Katutura to

highlight US government programming that supports young people, women and families to improve access to economic opportunities and health services.

Biden will further deliver a keynote address to students on the role of young people in shaping the future and strengthening democracy on Friday before she leaves for Kenya.

This is Jill Biden’s sixth visit to Africa, her first visit to Namibia, and third visit to Kenya.
