Onambango: Family, friends, and members of the legal fraternity gathered at Onambango village in the Oshana Region for the memorial service of the late Ondangwa Control Prosecutor Justine Shiweda, who died in a Windhoek hospital last Saturday. Shiweda, 30, was tragically shot three times and doused with acid on the morning of 17 October 2025, while opening her gate to take her children to school and subsequently go to work. She succumbed to her injuries in a Windhoek hospital on Saturday, 07 February 2026.

According to Namibia Press Agency, paying tribute to her friend, Linda Iyambo described Shiweda as someone whose life was lived boldly, courageously, and with love. 'We stand united as Justine's friends, united in grief, in love, and in remembrance. Our hearts are truly broken, and our words feel small in the face of this great loss.' Iyambo remembered Shiweda as soft-spoken and gentle, yet fiercely protective of those she loved. 'When she took you in as a friend, she adopted you as a brother, a sister, and as family. When shelter was needed, she offered her home freely. When advice was needed, she offered her wisdom gently. And when strength was needed, she would stand tall on your behalf when your knees trembled,' said Iyambo.

Central to Justine's life were her children, whom Iyambo said were her driving force. 'She would often tell us; I am fighting for my children. Those words were her prayer, her mission, her breath,' Iyambo added. Family member Dennis Shikongo, who delivered the eulogy of the late prosecutor, described her as a star who was quiet, polite, and respectful.

Shiweda started her primary school in the early 2000s at Ondangwa Prof Primary School and continued with her secondary education at Oshigambo High School. She furthered her studies at the University of Namibia, graduating with an Honours degree in law in 2017. The young woman started working for the Ministry of Justice in 2017 and continued until her death.

Her parents, in a tribute delivered by Alina Ikaku, described her as their breadwinner, kind, caring, and lovely. 'We're heartbroken by how our daughter was taken away from us. It is not easy to lose our daughter, who was our breadwinner. Justine was polite and full of love, always smiling and very caring. Our advisor. She loved her father dearly,' Ikaku read. 'Justine had a vision, one of them was to ensure that her kids get quality education and to ensure that her family has a decent life. All her dreams were cut short. We will continue to ensure her kids get quality education like she always wanted,' they added.

Shiweda is survived by her parents, two children, a boy and a girl, and seven siblings.
