Katima mulilo: A planned strike by more than 160 Katima Mulilo Security Services employees was averted on Wednesday after the company and union representatives reached an 11th-hour agreement regarding three months of unpaid wages. Workers had threatened to down tools over outstanding salaries for June, July, and August 2026.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the secretary-general of the Namibia Public Security and Allied Workers Union (NAPUSAWU), Alex Taimo, said it was agreed that all outstanding payments would be processed by Thursday. Taimo emphasized the expectation for the company's management to ensure that all employees receive their due salaries without further delays.

Despite the financial strain caused by the delayed wages, Taimo noted that members have continued to report for duty and meet their contractual obligations. He highlighted the severe financial hardship the ongoing delays have caused for workers and their families, labeling the situation as unacceptable.

Taimo mentioned that, as of Thursday, only six employees had not been officially remunerated. However, this claim was contested by an anonymous employee who expressed skepticism about the reported figures, citing inconsistencies between the union's statements and the situation on the ground at the company's offices in Kamunu village.

Taimo dismissed these allegations, reaffirming that all payments should be cleared by Thursday as per the agreement. He reminded that the Labour Act mandates monthly payments and pointed out that companies unable to meet the minimum wage could seek exemption from the Ministry of Labour.

The affected security officers have warned of escalating the issue to the Office of the Labour Commissioner if the payments are not fulfilled as promised. Attempts to contact Katima Mulilo Security Services management for comment were unsuccessful, with calls to provided contact numbers going unanswered.
