Windhoek: The Khomas Region and China's Jiangxi Province are poised to formalise collaboration across multiple sectors, including agriculture, education, youth development, trade, and investment. This follows a Letter of Intent signed last year, marking a significant step towards strengthening ties between the two regions.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Khomas Governor Sam Nujoma emphasized the importance of finalizing and signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to activate the existing framework and facilitate ongoing exchanges. Nujoma's remarks were made during the launch of the 'Jiangxi Culture Goes to International Sister Cities (Namibia)' programme, an initiative designed to boost cultural exchanges and fortify relationships between Jiangxi Province and its international sister cities.

Governor Nujoma expressed optimism about the MoU's potential to foster sustained dialogue and exchanges, highlighting the Khomas delegation's previous visit to Jiangxi. The visit included tours of the province's tea industry, an innovation park at Lushan, and cultural tourism developments around Mount Lushan. Nujoma noted Khomas's keen interest in opportunities within the cultural and creative industries, tourism, higher education, and youth skills development.

The governor underscored the potential for enhanced people-to-people relations through cultural exchanges, with Jiangxi showcasing its traditional medicine, tea culture, cultural tourism, and revolutionary history. He remarked on the enduring nature of mutual cultural appreciation over trade figures, suggesting that these exchanges form the bedrock of strong international relationships.

The launch also outlined plans for an MoU on media cooperation between the Jiangxi International Communication Centre and New Era Publication Corporation. Nujoma proposed a dialogue platform to focus on youth exchanges, university cooperation, and economic and trade ties, which could lay the groundwork for long-term collaboration.
