Khorixas:Kunene Region Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua has called on corporate institutions at the inaugural Khorixas Trade Fair to forge meaningful partnerships with local entrepreneurs through supply arrangements, mentorship, and training initiatives.

According to NAMPA, Muharukua, in a speech read on his behalf at the official opening of the trade fair on Tuesday, emphasized that future growth must effectively connect skills development with enterprise. He pointed out that local trainees require workplace experience, graduates need platforms to apply their knowledge, and small businesses need reliable customers, suitable premises, and access to finance.

Muharukua urged corporate institutions represented at the event to explore local supply arrangements and mentorship partnerships, encouraging them to work with local entrepreneurs to help promising enterprises meet procurement requirements. He highlighted the need for young people to gain experience and demonstrate their abilities.

The governor also mentioned the town's efforts in laying vital foundations through projects such as the inauguration of the Khorixas Vocational Training Centre in 2024 and ongoing investments in infrastructure. He urged the private sector to support local enterprises and integrate them into their value chains, translating developments into tangible improvements in everyday life.

Additionally, Muharukua noted Khorixas' tourism potential, given its proximity to attractions like Twyfelfontein and the petrified forest, and called on stakeholders to enhance local hospitality and craft production to benefit communities directly.

The trade fair, running from 26 to 31 October, features 51 participating exhibitors and stalls, including 22 major corporate entities, 10 beverage stalls, 10 food stalls, and nine local small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The opening event was attended by regional and local authority leaders, traditional and church leaders, security cluster representatives, business operators, and community members.
