Windhoek: The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation has introduced an amended wage order, which came into effect on 01 January 2025.

According to Namibia Press Agency, in a media statement issued by the ministry on Tuesday, its executive director, Lydia Indombo, stated that this is the first-ever national minimum wage for employees in Namibia. She noted that the amendment to the wage order includes provisions for phasing in the minimum wage for the security sector over a three-year period.

Indombo explained that with effect from 01 January 2025, the minimum wage for employees is set at N.dollars 18.00 per hour. However, despite this wage setting, domestic workers are entitled to N.dollars 12.00 per hour, agricultural workers to N.dollars 10.00 per hour, and security workers to N.dollars 13.00 per hour, all effective from 01 January 2025.

Indombo further mentioned that the amended national minimum wage order applies to all security workers, with the wage increase being implemented gradually over three years. This phased-in approach is designed to ensure a smooth transition.

She emphasized that the details of the incremental adjustments to the wage rates are outlined, highlighting the specific timelines and expected increases.
