Karasburg: The 48-year-old man accused of raping his 18-year-old daughter was denied bail in the Karasburg Magistrate's Court on Monday. Court documents indicated that the accused made his first appearance before Magistrate Melissa Mungunda, who postponed the case to 03 March 2025 for further police investigation and legal aid application.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the accused expressed his intention to apply for a lawyer through the Directorate of Legal Aid. Bail was denied as the investigation is at an early stage, raising concerns that the accused might interfere with state witnesses. State prosecutor Easter Jafet stated that the victim was allegedly also assaulted by the accused after the incident, prompting a request for the accused to remain in custody.

The magistrate advised the accused to bring a formal bail application if he wishes to be released on bail. In the meantime, the accused will remain in Karasburg police custody until his next court appearance.

The incident reportedly involved the victim waking up to find the accused on top of her. Despite her attempts to push him away, the accused allegedly did not stop. He later threatened to beat her with a sjambok, according to a police report shared earlier with the news agency.
