Windhoek: The Zambezi Region has officially launched Lifelong Learning Month, which will run from September 1 to 30, 2026. A variety of activities are planned for this period, including educational programmes, sports promotions, arts and culture exhibitions, literacy class competitions, learner exhibitions, community dialogues, cultural performances, and skills development initiatives. The month will also feature recognition awards for adult learners and literacy promoters.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the launch event took place at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex, where Judea Lyaboloma Constituency councillor Vincent Sinalumbu emphasized that learning is a lifelong journey that empowers individuals, strengthens families, and contributes to the socio-economic development of both the region and the nation. Sinalumbu highlighted that education extends beyond the classroom and continues throughout life.
Sinalumbu noted that lifelong learning equips people with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed to adapt to changing circumstances, participate meaningfully in society, and improve their lives. 'We are here today to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every Namibian, regardless of age or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and realize their full potential,' he stated, emphasizing the government's vision of building an educated, skilled, and inclusive society.
This year's activities are celebrated under the theme, 'Literacy for people, the planet, and prosperity,' which underscores the transformative role of literacy in advancing human development, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth. Sinalumbu called upon all Zambezi Region residents to actively participate in the planned September activities and urged continued support for schools, libraries, communities, traditional authorities, and development partners.
Katima Mulilo Deputy Mayor Charity Matongo-Mabuku remarked that the local council recognizes education and skills development as essential pillars for local economic growth, social cohesion, and community empowerment. She affirmed the council's commitment to supporting initiatives that create learning and personal development opportunities for all residents.
The event was attended by Regional Education Director Alex Sikume, Deputy Education Director Norah Munembo, several education circuit inspectors, learners, and parents.
