Ucchpinda: Four workers were killed and six others injured when a service lift collapsed at a power plant in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the incident occurred late Tuesday night at a power plant in Ucchpinda village, located in Sakti district, approximately 234 kilometers northeast of Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. The workers were descending in the lift after completing their shift at RKM Powergen Pvt Ltd when the lift suddenly plummeted, leading to injuries for all ten individuals on board.
A senior police official stated that the injured workers were immediately transported to Jindal Fortis Hospital in the nearby Raigarh district. Unfortunately, four of the workers succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The remaining six workers are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
Local media reported that the lift had recently undergone maintenance. In response to the incident, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the lift's collapse.
