Paris: The Louvre Museum was closed on Monday morning after its employees voted unanimously to go on strike. The decision has left many visitors disappointed as they found the iconic museum's doors shut.
According to Namibia Press Agency, some 400 employees of the Louvre voted "unanimously" in favor of a "renewable strike", as reported by the General Workers' Confederation (CGT) and the French Democratic Federation of Labor (CFDT). The strike highlights the workers' demands for additional staff and measures to tackle overcrowding, following the recent jewelry heist in October.
The Louvre informed the public via its social media platform X, stating, "Due to a strike, the museum is closed for the day. We apologize for any inconvenience." This closure adds to the challenges faced by the Paris landmark, which remains a major attraction for tourists worldwide.
It is noted that Tuesday is the Louvre's weekly closing day, and a general assembly is scheduled for Wednesday, as mentioned by the unions. This strike underscores the ongoing concerns about staffing and visitor management at one of the world's most visited museums.
