Windhoek: Namibia has extended an invitation to the United States of America, urging deeper investment in key sectors such as value addition, industrialisation, technology transfer, and skills development. The nation emphasized that differing views on international matters should not overshadow the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
According to Namibia Press Agency, International Relations and Trade Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, at an event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the USA's independence in Windhoek, expressed Namibia's desire for partnerships that generate value within its borders and deliver mutual benefits. Ashipala-Musavyi called on American businesses and investors to collaborate with Namibia in strategic sectors, moving beyond a traditional exporter-importer dynamic to foster shared prosperity and empowerment.
The minister highlighted the longstanding relationship between Namibia and the United States, built on mutual respect and shared goals, despite occasional differences on global issues. She noted that such differences present opportunities for constructive dialogue, reinforcing a commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity.
Ashipala-Musavyi praised the United States as a valued development partner, particularly in health through initiatives like the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which have strengthened Namibia's health system and improved the lives of many Namibians.
Furthermore, the minister reiterated Namibia's readiness to engage with the USA on the principles of mutual benefit, respect, and sovereign equality.
John Giordano, the United States of America's Ambassador to Namibia, echoed the sentiment of shared economic goals, emphasizing that economic strength is foundational to national strength. He stated that private investment and trusted partnerships are crucial for prosperity and highlighted Namibia's growing international attention due to its resource potential and developmental ambitions.
The event was attended by Namibian business leaders and diplomats, underlining the significance of the celebration.
