Windhoek:The Landless People's Movement (LPM) Youth Command Element (YCE) has called for immediate government intervention to resolve the leadership and governance crisis at Namibia's National Youth Council (NYC).

According to Namibia Press Agency, the call from LPM YCE follows a disordered and inconclusive General Assembly in June 2026 that was suspended before the Council's leadership structures could be established. William Minnie, the LPM YCE National Spokesperson, expressed in a media statement that the ongoing uncertainty is unacceptable, emphasizing the NYC's crucial role in youth development and empowerment.

The LPM YCE aligns with the Affirmative Repositioning Students Command's previous demands for a public update on the NYC's status, restoration of its governance structures, resumption of affiliation processes for eligible youth organizations, and a roadmap to conclude the General Assembly. Minnie urged the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture to deliver a detailed report and a timeline for resolving the assembly's suspension.

Minnie emphasized the need for the government to address governance, representation, and procedural challenges with transparency to prevent the recurrence of issues that disrupted the June assembly. He stressed that young Namibians require a functional institution that genuinely represents their interests.

He further stated that the NYC should prioritize serving all young Namibians, rather than catering to political factions or individual interests, and should be grounded in law, democratic participation, transparency, and accountability.
