Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks during his phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump hold significant guiding importance for the Chinese mainland's approach to Taiwan, stated a mainland spokesperson.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Peng Qing'en, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed the importance of the conversation at a press conference on Wednesday. The call, which took place on Monday night, involved President Xi clarifying China's principled stance on the Taiwan issue, stressing the importance of China and the United States working together to uphold the victorious outcomes of World War II.

Peng emphasized that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the subsequent restoration of Taiwan to China. In light of this, the mainland aims to unite compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to firmly oppose any "Taiwan independence" separatist movements. The focus will be on promoting peaceful cross-Strait relations, maintaining peace and stability in the region, and fostering lasting well-being for the Chinese nation.
