Male Nurse Dies on Spot in Accident at Mbome Village

Mbome Village: A 36-year-old man identified as Karufere Gideon Hausiku died on the spot and four others sustained slight to serious injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Mbome village in the Kavango West region on Monday. Kavango West Police Regional Commander Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo informed Nampa on Tuesday that the accident occurred between 17h00 to 18h00 and the injured, including the driver, were rushed to the Nankudu hospital.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the driver employed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Windhoek and the occupants were all on official duty in the area at the time of the accident. It is alleged that the driver of a white Toyota Land Cruiser Double cab with the registration number GRN 7088, travelling from Mpungu to Silikunga village on the D3407 gravel road with four other male occupants, lost control of the vehicle while avoiding bumping two donkeys and overturned.

Sakuwa-Neo further said: "It is further alleged that the two donkeys were moving towards the road, and the driver did not know that they were tied to a tree. As a result, he lost control of the vehicle and overturned it, causing multiple damages to the vehicle as well as serious to slight injuries to four occupants including the driver, while one passenger died at the scene," she said. The deceased was a nurse at the Nankudu hospital and the next of kin were informed.
