Grootfontein: A 25-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his younger brother in Grootfontein's Kap n Bou informal settlement on Monday. Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in a media statement on Tuesday said the incident occurred around 23h30 at their family home when the deceased tried to stop his brother from attacking their sister.
According to Namibia Press Agency, preliminary police investigations indicate that the 21-year-old male suspect was fighting with his sister, and their older brother, identified by relatives as Frankie Aukumeb, intervened to stop them. "It was in this process of separating them that the suspect allegedly stabbed Aukumeb on the right shoulder with a knife. Aukumeb sustained an open wound and succumbed to his injury on the scene," said Mbeha.
The knife suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered by the police at the scene, she added. The suspect was arrested on a charge of murder on the same night and is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate's Court this week. Police investigations into the matter continue.
