Man dies in car crash in Windhoek

A 32-year-old man died after the driver of the vehicle he was travelling in lost control over the vehicle, causing an accident in Windhoek’s Otjomuise residential area on Saturday.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) weekend crime report issued Sunday said the deceased person was identified as Shimwandi Vendelinus Mwevatina.

The incident occurred around 18h30 on Sam Nujoma Drive on Saturday.

“It is alleged that an unlicensed driver, recklessly and negligently whilst intoxicated, drove a Volkswagen Golf and thereby lost control of the vehicle which resulted into a fatal accident causing the death of one passenger,” said the report.

It added that the driver and another passenger sustained serious injuries but were reported to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile a 54-year-old man died after the vehicle he was travelling in allegedly collided with another vehicle at Ongenga village in the Ohangwena Region on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Henock Kambwali and the incident occurred around 20h30 at the village.

“It is alleged that a police vehicle driver, attached to the VIP Directorate collided head on with a Range Rover, it is suspected that the Range Rover was intending to turn to the right while the police vehicle was travelling straight. Shortly after the collision, another vehicle, a Toyota Hilux collided against the wreckage of the Range Rover which was still on the road,” said the report.

Kambwali was one of the passengers in the Range Rover, other passengers from the same car and the VIP driver sustained serious to slight injuries.

In a separate incident, a 27-year-old man identified as Andreas Nghindinihaba Shikulo allegedly committed suicide by hanging at Ohamuti village in the Omusati Region on Saturday.

The body of Shikulo was found hanging from the roof of his grandmother’s house around 15h00 on Saturday. The deceased was last seen alive on the same day around 13h00 and no suicide note was found.

All deceased persons’ next of kin are aware of their deaths and police investigations into all matters continue.
