A 39-year-old man drowned in the Kavango River after he left his home on Monday to go fishing and never returned.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa on Wednesday that the incident happened at Kashira Village in the Ndiyona Constituency.

Kanyetu said the family members, after realising their loved one did not return, went searching for him and discovered his lifeless body floating on the River on Tuesday morning.

The deceased is suspected to have drowned as he was suffering from epilepsy.

No foul play is suspected and his body was taken to the Nyangana hospital.

In an unrelated incident, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 54-year-old man at Ndama Informal Settlement in Rundu on Monday.

It is alleged that the suspect went to get the girl from her room and brought her to his room, where he had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

The suspect is allegedly known to the victim but has not yet been arrested.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
