Windhoek: A 35-year-old man lost N.dollars 20 000 to extortionists in Windhoek on Friday after being targeted in a staged criminal allegation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) weekend crime report issued on Sunday detailed that the incident occurred in Khomasdal around 16h30. Two male suspects, known to the 35-year-old complainant, allegedly posed with samples of stones.
Shikwambi reported that during their conversation, three unknown males arrived in a pick-up truck, impersonating police officers and demanded N.dollars 60 000 from the complainant to avoid arrest for purported illegal stone dealings. They threatened the complainant, whereupon the victim requested N.dollars 20 000 from his mother. The suspects drove with the victim's car and withdrew N.dollars 10 000 at the Total service station next to Khomas Medical Centre before proceeding to the Namcor service station to withdraw another N.dollars 10 000 and handed the money to the alleged suspects.
The report stated that the suspects fled in a white Nissan Note, prompting the victim to pursue them while firing shots. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and escaped. No arrests have been made.
