Windhoek: A 28-year-old man was arrested for cannabis possession at the Okapuka roadblock Sunday morning after police intercepted the vehicle he was travelling in from Okahandja.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force's head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, confirmed the arrest in the weekend crime report. The suspect faces charges of possession and/or dealing in cannabis.
Mbeha stated that Okahandja police received a tip-off around 11h00 on Sunday regarding a man at a local shopping mall. The man was looking to hitchhike to Windhoek and was allegedly carrying two large bags suspected of containing drugs. 'After he secured a lift, the individual was followed by a police vehicle to the Okapuka roadblock, where he was intercepted,' Mbeha said.
A subsequent search revealed 15 parcels of cannabis with an estimated street value of N.dollars 74 000. The suspect was arrested at the scene and processed at the Okahandja Police Station. He is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate's Court this week. Police investigations are ongoing.
