The lifeless body of an adult man was found hanging from a tree with a shoelace around his neck at Otjiwarongo on Saturday.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Saturday said the deceased is not yet identified as no documents were found on him.

His body was found in the bushes near the military base in the town after a passerby reportedly found a silver Toyota Corolla with a Grootfontein registration number plate parked for a long time alongside the road, said Mbeha.

“A team of police officers and members of the Namibian Defense Force were informed, and they teamed up to conduct a search. Not far from the vehicle, his body was hanging on a thorn tree with an orange shoelace still intact around his neck,” said Mbeha.

The body was removed from the tree and the deceased is estimated to be in his late 30s or early 40s, added Mbeha.

An inquest docket was opened on Saturday at the Otjiwarongo Police Station.

Police investigations continue.
