Man stabs elderly at Berseba

A 36-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly stabbed an elderly woman at Berseba in the ||Kharas Region.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) crime investigations coordinator for the ||Kharas Region, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo, said the incident happened at around 15h00 on Thursday at Palmlaagte residential area at the village.

Mubebo said the suspect was hitch-hiking hike from the village to Tses and was sitting near the house of the victim.

“It is alleged that while the victim was at her house with her grandson of 10-years- old, the unknown man came near their house and sat, the victim asked why the suspect was sitting there, the suspect told the victim that he was looking for a hike. The victim advised the suspect to come sit in her house rather than sitting outside the suspect agreed,” he said.

He added that when the suspect came in the house, he later allegedly attacked the victim and stabbed her several times in her neck and in her face with a knife the woman sustained serious injuries.

Mubebo said the woman was rushed to the local clinic for medical attention where later she was taken to the Keetmanshoop state hospital before being transfer to Windhoek state hospital.

The police are investigating a case of attempt murder.

Mubebo said even though the suspect was arrested he has not been charged yet as the police has not taken the statement from the victim. The man will be charged once the victim gives her statement and will then appear in court.
