Rundu: The Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) has announced the appointment of Thimoteus Kativa as the substantive chief executive officer (CEO) of its Northern Communal Area (NCA) subsidiary, effective 01 May 2026.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kativa, who previously served as Manager of Livestock Procurement within the NCA subsidiary, has been appointed on a five-year fixed-term contract at the subsidiary's headquarters in Rundu, Kavango East. In a statement issued on Monday, Meatco stated that Kativa brings extensive experience and knowledge of Namibia's agricultural sector, particularly in the NCAs, as well as expertise in agribusiness operations.
The statement emphasized Kativa's strong understanding of agribusiness operations, the livestock and red meat value chain, and the dynamics affecting communal farming communities. Kativa previously served as a board member of the Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU) from 2017 to 2023 and currently serves as an executive member of the Kavango East Regional Farmers Union.
Kativa holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) obtained from the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) in 2023, and a Bachelor of Agricultural Management from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), completed in 2016.
Speaking on his appointment, Kativa expressed his focus on strengthening stakeholder confidence, stabilising operations, and supporting the long-term sustainability of the business. Meatco Interim CEO, Ambassador Albertus Aochamub, congratulated Kativa on the appointment, stating that the company is confident he will advance the strategic objectives of the NCA subsidiary in line with Meatco's broader mandate.
Aochamub noted that Meatco NCA had entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Zambezi Abattoir and Meat Processing Company (ZAMCO) in April 2021 to stabilise operations at the Katima Mulilo Abattoir after ZAMCO experienced challenges in fully operationalising the facility. He added that Kativa's appointment comes at a critical time as the subsidiary continues to strengthen operations and manage strategic transitions within the NCA.
