Mining Forum Yields US$1.86 Billion Investment

Windhoek: Namibia's mining sector has attracted US$1.86 billion in investment and created 3,054 jobs in the nine months since the Namibia Public-Private Forum (NamPPF), against a four-year target of US$2.8 billion and 8,000 jobs, the Chamber of Mines of Namibia said.According to Namibia Press Agency, Chamber of Mines of Namibia President and QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine Managing Director George Botshiwe, along with Chamber Chief Executive Officer Fabian Shaanika, delivered separate presentations at the Namibia Mining Expo and Conference held in Windhoek from August 4 to 6, 2026. The event was themed 'From Dialogue to Delivery: Assessing Progress in Creating Mining-led Economic Growth and Employment since NamPPF.'Botshiwe informed delegates that the mining sector contributed 14% of Namibia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2025, generated N$7.8 billion in fiscal revenue, and supported 20,798 direct jobs and 145,856 indirect jobs. Moreover, the sector procured N$23.9 billion in local goods and services, w ith 98% of its 8,201 permanent employees being Namibian citizens.He highlighted several projects that have progressed since the forum, including the Osino Resources Twin Hill Mine, valued at US$500 million with 1,500 jobs created; the Navachab underground expansion, valued at US$242 million with 127 jobs created; and the B2Gold underground expansion, valued at US$105 million. Additional projects include Bannerman's Etango Project, valued at US$354 million, creating 477 combined jobs; Reptile Mineral Resources, valued at US$474 million with 700 jobs; the Husab Leach Project, valued at US$450 million; and the Husab-NamWater Desalination Plant, valued at US$170 million.Botshiwe also noted that four priority projects remain stalled, including the Rössing Uranium Expansion, the Sinomine Tsumeb Smelter, the integrated marine phosphate sector, which could create 50,000 jobs if approved, and the Skorpion Zinc refinery conversion. He emphasized that the forum led directly to the president announcing Economic Recov ery, Health, and Housing task forces and called for a formal delivery table with clear timelines to sustain momentum.Shaanika, on his part, mentioned that Twin Hills Gold is under construction with a 13-year mine life, the Etango Uranium project has secured a water agreement, and the Tumas Uranium project is licensed with its financing pathway progressing.He also pointed to a next wave of diversification, including the Haib Copper project, the Uis/Lithium Ridge growth pipeline, and Kokoseb Gold. Shaanika added that the NamPPF's Economic Recovery Unit has prioritised finalising the Investment Bill, implementing investor visa reforms, and reducing licensing and permitting bottlenecks affecting mining, with feedback expected at a second forum.
