Okongo: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has announced its plan to inaugurate its first retail outlet in Okongo by August 2026, marking its 40th store nationwide. In a recent media statement, MTC emphasized that this new retail outlet will facilitate easier access to services for the residents of Okongo in the Ohangwena Region, who have previously depended on outreach initiatives or traveled nearly 100 kilometers to Eenhana for assistance.

According to Namibia Press Agency, MTC Corporate Communications Practitioner Erasmus Nekundi stated that the expansion is a response to the increasing demand for services in Okongo and its neighboring areas. Nekundi highlighted that the demand for MTC services has seen a marked increase over the years, creating a need for a permanent presence in the town.

Nekundi further elaborated on the importance of improved telecommunications access, noting its role in socio-economic development and customer service delivery. The upcoming mobile home is set to provide a variety of services including SIM card replacements and registrations, contract applications, account payments and renewals, MTC Maris, and the sale of recharge vouchers.

MTC also mentioned that this expansion is part of the company's Integrated Strategic Business Strategy, which aims to enhance its retail and digital presence in high-growth areas, taking into account demographic and economic trends. Nekundi revealed that additional mobile homes are planned for Walvis Bay and Okuryangava in Windhoek within the current financial year, with the Ongwediva outlet slated to relocate to Oshana Mall.

Looking ahead to the 2026/27 financial year, MTC has plans for new outlets in Omaruru, Otjinene, and potentially Outjo, further expanding its reach across Namibia.
