MVA Donates N.dollars 141,000 CCTV Cameras to City of Windhoek

Windhoek: The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund) on Friday handed over three high-tech CCTV cameras, valued at N.dollars 141,000, to the City of Windhoek (CoW) to bolster road safety and emergency response capabilities. The donation, which took place at the Council Chambers, stems from a collaboration established in November 2024 aimed at transforming Windhoek into a smart city through the use of technology to curb the high rate of road accidents in the capital.According to Namibia Press Agency, MVA Fund Chief Executive Officer, Rosalia Martins-Hausiku, highlighted that the Khomas Region accounts for over 70 per cent of national crashes, with the majority occurring in Windhoek. She emphasized that the donation forms part of a strategic intervention designed to enhance the Fund's ability to deliver medical assistance during the 'golden hour'. Martins-Hausiku described the donation as a crucial component of their shared response to road safety challenges.City of Windhoek Chief Executive Officer, Moses M atyayi, expressed that with more than 400,000 registered vehicles and the city's high crash rate, the partnership represents a vital strategic response. He remarked that the partnership marks an important milestone in the collective effort to improve the quality of life for residents, strengthening their ability to address these challenges in a coordinated and effective manner.City Police Chief, Leevi Ileka, noted that the cameras will be strategically installed in high-risk areas to act as a deterrent and assist the justice system by providing crucial evidence. Ileka stated that the installation of these cameras will significantly enhance their ability to prevent and investigate crime, facilitating the justice system in concluding cases.Also in attendance to receive the donation was CoW Mayor, Sakarias Uunona, who commented on integrating the new systems into the city's surveillance network. He mentioned that this integration will empower law enforcement with critical tools to prevent incidents and prote ct lives.
