Oshana: Newly elected Oshana Regional Youth Forum Chairperson, Griffith Mwashekele, has pledged to bridge the gap between rural and urban youth and improve access to opportunities for young people across the region. Mwashekele stated that one of his primary objectives is to ensure that young people, particularly those in rural communities, have access to information on educational, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Mwashekele highlighted that a major challenge facing young people in the region is the lack of access to information on available opportunities. Many youths are unaware of educational, training, employment, entrepreneurship, and funding opportunities that could improve their livelihoods. He emphasized the importance of strengthening communication channels and information-sharing platforms to ensure that opportunities reach all young people. His decision to contest the position was motivated by a desire to serve young people and contribute to the region's development.
On youth unemployment, Mwashekele mentioned that the forum's initiatives align with the goals of the sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), particularly Pillar Two on human development and community resilience. He explained that the forum intends to seek funding and strategic partnerships to enhance skills development, entrepreneurship, and income-generating opportunities for young people, women, and vulnerable members of the community.
Mwashekele further noted his plans to ensure that the concerns and aspirations of young people, particularly those in rural and underserved communities, are represented and acted upon by strengthening grassroots leadership structures through empowering constituency youth chairpersons. He expressed his vision for all young people living in rural villages to have equal access to quality skills development and opportunities, irrespective of geography.
Looking ahead, Mwashekele hopes to leave a legacy defined by transformed lives, established businesses, and stronger communities. He stated his desire to be remembered for bridging the gap between rural and urban youth, empowering grassroots leaders, and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods. His success will be measured by the tangible impact on young people's lives, such as businesses established and jobs created.
