Oranjemund:President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah unveiled a significant discovery at Namdeb's Southern Coastal Mine‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬a 176.29-carat natural diamond, marking the largest find at the mine in the last twenty years.
According to NAMPA, the diamond, discovered on May 10, 2026, is considered a major milestone for Namdeb and a source of national pride for Namibia. President Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized that this find underscores Namibia's reputation as a country rich in valuable natural resources and known for producing high-quality natural diamonds.
The president highlighted that mining is a crucial component of Namibia's economic development, creating jobs and supporting the economy. She acknowledged the challenges faced by the diamond industry, including shifts in consumer preferences, competition from lab-grown diamonds, and market fluctuations.
To address these challenges, Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the need for innovation and adaptability in positioning Namibia's natural diamonds globally, emphasizing their rarity, authenticity, quality, and responsible sourcing. She also advocated for greater involvement in the international diamond value chain through activities such as cutting, polishing, and jewellery manufacturing.
In her closing remarks, the president congratulated Namdeb and its workforce on the discovery, urging a renewed commitment to ensuring that Namibia's natural resources contribute to the shared prosperity of its people.
