Windhoek:Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) recently hosted the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) in a series of technical engagements aimed at enhancing agricultural production capabilities between the two nations.
According to NAMPA, the collaboration is underpinned by an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that allows both countries to support each other regularly. The focus of the engagement was on expanding soya bean production, as Namibia is already proficient in maize, wheat, animal husbandry, and poultry production.
Superintendent Richard Sichone, leading the ZCS delegation, praised the Namibian Government for its agricultural achievements. He highlighted the ZCS's acquisition of over 55,000 hectares of titled land in Zambia, emphasizing their ambition to become leaders in agricultural production with structured plans.
Sichone assured Commissioner Immanuel Ngolo, the NCS's head of the Directorate of Food Production, that the Zambian team was there to provide practical solutions rather than compete. The delegation aimed to share hands-on experience in soya bean production, leaving theoretical knowledge behind in favor of practical demonstrations.
The NCS plans to use over 700 hectares of irrigable land at Katima Farm to develop a major food production hub, which will support the inmate population and enhance Namibia's food security. Commissioner Ngolo officially inaugurated the technical engagement event.
