Windhoek: Senior officials from Namibia and Botswana convened in Windhoek on Monday for the second session of the Namibia-Botswana Binational Commission (BNC), reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and social sectors. The meeting runs from Monday to Friday and is co-chaired by Ndiitah Nghipondoka-Robiati, Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT), and Botswana's Thuso Ramodimoosi, Permanent Secretary of that Ministry of International Relations.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the gathering brings together high commissioners, senior government officials, and technical experts from the two neighboring countries. Nghipondoka-Robiati at the opening highlighted the importance of integrating trade into foreign policy, stating that separating the two undermines national interests. She praised the longstanding friendship between the two nations, which she said is rooted in shared history, values, and aspirations.

Ramodimoosi echoed these sentiments, noting that the BNC serves as a platform to translate historical and cultural ties into tangible development outcomes. 'Our joint efforts must prioritise sustainable development and improve the livelihoods of our citizens,' said Ramodimoosi. The session follows recent high-level visits between the two countries' heads of State. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah visited Botswana in May 2025, shortly after her inauguration, while Botswana's President Duma Gideon Boko attended Namibia's presidential inauguration in March.

Nghipondoka-Robiati further emphasised Namibia's current development priorities under the 8th Administration, such as youth empowerment, agriculture, education, and intra-African trade as key areas for collaboration between the two nations. Both chairs expressed the need for implementable outcomes that align with regional and global agendas, including the African Continental Free Trade Agreement and the Southern African Development Community's industrialisation and energy transition goals. The session will conclude with the signing of several memoranda of understanding and the adoption of a joint communiqu©.
