Namibia records nine new cases, two deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Friday recorded nine new COVID-19 cases and two deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 569.

In an update issued on Saturday, Shangula said the new cases formed part of 2 171 tested samples and represent a 0.4 per cent positivity ratio with a gender distribution of six males and three females aged between seven and 65 years.

Otjozondjupa region recorded three new cases followed by Khomas and Erongo with two cases each, while Oshana and Hardap recorded one case each.

Of the confirmed cases, two are learners from different schools and two are students from different institutions of higher learning. Only one case received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while four cases are fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Friday had 57 active cases of which 12 were hospitalised, with one person admitted to the intensive care unit.

A total of 12 recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 125 447.

A cumulative 354 270 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Friday, of which 70 958 had received the single dose Janssen & Johnson vaccine, while 222 335 people had received two doses. Therefore, 293 293 people have completed the vaccination.
