Namibia Scoops 37 Medals in Athletics at AUSC Games

Beijing: Namibia's field and track athletes won 37 medals at the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region Five Games, to finish fourth on the track and field medal tally after four days of competition at Swakopmund's Vineta Stadium.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the AUSC Region Five Games are underway in Windhoek and Swakopmund from 04 to 13 July 2025, featuring athletes competing in various sports, including athletics, swimming, karate, judo, football, volleyball, boxing, table tennis, tennis, basketball, netball, and e-sports.

Team Namibia secured nine gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals, finishing fourth behind South Africa, which has been dominating the youth championships in several sports. Team South Africa collected 40 medals: 22 gold, nine silver, and nine bronze.

Team Botswana finished third with 27 medals comprising 11 gold, eight silver, and eight bronze, while Zimbabwe in fourth had 44 medals: 10 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze.

Mozambique ranked fifth in track and field events with nine medals: four gold, two silver, and three bronze, and Angola was sixth with 15 medals: two gold, four silver, and nine bronze. Eswatini was at the bottom of the medal table, earning only one bronze.

Zambia was seventh with nine medals: two gold, four silver, and three bronze. Position number eight was occupied by Malawi, with 10 medals: two gold, three silver, and five bronze.

Meanwhile, Lesotho and Eswatini completed the medal table in positions nine and 10, respectively. Lesotho had five medals: two gold, two silver, and one bronze, while Eswatini had three medals: two gold and one silver.
