Windhoek: Namibian swimmers won 30 medals at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five Games, finishing second on the medal tally after four days of competition.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the AUSC Region Five Games are currently being held in Windhoek and Swakopmund from 04 to 13 July 2025. Athletes are competing in a variety of sports, including athletics, swimming, karate, judo, football, volleyball, boxing, table tennis, tennis, basketball, netball, and e-sports.
After four days of competition in Swakopmund, Team Namibia secured 10 gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze medals. They finished second behind the swimming powerhouse South Africa, which amassed a total of 49 medals comprising 21 gold, 21 silver, and seven bronze.
Team Zimbabwe claimed the third spot with 13 medals, consisting of three gold, three silver, and seven bronze. Botswana followed in fourth place with seven medals, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze.
Zambia ranked fifth in the swimming events, securing four medals with one gold, one silver, and two bronze. Mozambique placed sixth, earning four bronze medals, while Eswatini concluded the competition at the bottom of the medal table with a single bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Angola, Lesotho, and Malawi are the only countries that have yet to earn any medals after four days of competition at The Cube in Swakopmund.
