Kongola: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Zambezi Region have appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying a man who was reportedly run over by a truck on Monday. The accident occurred around 22h57 near Kongola in the Mulanga area, along the Trans-Zambezi highway.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Sergeant Alex Mawaya of the NamPol traffic unit stated that the man was walking alongside the road when he noticed an oncoming truck. In an attempt to avoid the vehicle, the man moved into the opposite lane. However, the driver of the Freightliner truck, who was reportedly swerving to avoid potholes, struck the pedestrian.
The deceased, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was found without any identification documents on him. The body of the deceased was taken to the Katima Mulilo state mortuary for identification and an autopsy.
A case of reckless and negligent driving has been registered against the driver of the truck, who is a Zambian national. Police investigations continue.
