Rundu: A 22-year-old man accused of breaking into the home of Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo was denied bail when he appeared in the Rundu Magistrate's Court on Monday. Andreas Muyongo Mungongi, who was reportedly employed as a labourer for the governor, faces formal charges of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the alleged incident occurred on 03 January 2026 at Simwege village in the Kavango West Region. The prosecution alleges that Mungongi stole perfumes and a significant amount of cash earmarked for a borehole. The accused is also alleged to have broken into a nearby shebeen on the same day.
Mungongi then allegedly fled, leading to a police search that ended with his apprehension in Gobabis in the Omaheke Region on 08 January 2026. During the court proceedings, Magistrate George Matali ordered that Mungongi remain in custody. Bail was denied due to the severity of the offences and concerns that Mungongi posed a flight risk.
