Chelyabinsk: A domestically developed traction asynchronous motor for Russia's high-speed trains has passed acceptance tests and matches leading global counterparts in operational and energy performance, Russian Railways announced on its Telegram channel.According to Namibia Press Agency, the tests were conducted at Russian Electric Motors' plant in the western city of Chelyabinsk. The new TAD-650 motor boasts a rated power of 650 kW, an efficiency of up to 96 percent, and a compact design weighing 750 kg.Ural Locomotives is responsible for building the new high-speed trains, with test runs of the first train sets scheduled for autumn 2027 on a pilot high-speed section in West Russia.The country is also gearing up to commission its first high-speed railway, linking Moscow and St. Petersburg, by 2028. This railway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities to approximately two hours and 15 minutes.
