NamPol urges public to be cautious of kidnappings

The Erongo police have cautioned the public against suspected kidnappers following an alleged kidnapping incident at Walvis Bay on Monday.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Erongo regional crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner, Erastus IIkuyu in an incident report on Tuesday said two unknown men grabbed a 13-year-old boy near Namport Primary School in Walvis Bay. They allegedly followed the victim before grabbing him and threatening to kill him with a knife.

It is further alleged that two other men showed up with a silver Toyota Corolla with tinted windows and they forced the boy into the car.

“According to the victim, there were four men of which one was armed with a firearm. They drove off with the victim and as they were driving they were communicating on a cell phone with someone, allegedly informing them that their plan was successful and that the parcel would arrive in South Africa the next morning,” IIkuyu said.

When the vehicle stopped behind the mall in Okahandja the suspects got out of the car when the victim managed to escape and ran to a nearby service station, where he got assistance from someone who gave him a lift to Windhoek. They called his father, who was unaware of the incident.

“The father then arranged with some police friends to keep the boy safe until he went and took him from Windhoek and brought him back,” IIkuyu said, adding that the complainant was advised to open a case of kidnapping and human trafficking with the police.
