Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on members of Parliament to support the expedited passage of the Petroleum Amendment Bill under the Presidency. The president made the call during her State of the Nation Address (SONA) in the National Assembly on Wednesday.According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandi-Ndaitwah urged Parliament to act swiftly, highlighting that a year has already been lost in the process. She stated, "I am therefore calling on Parliament to join me in this effort. The first step is to pass the Petroleum Amendment Bill with urgency, as one year has already been lost."Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the importance of managing the oil and gas sector effectively to prevent potential challenges. "If it is not properly managed from the beginning, it could become a curse for our country, as we have seen in some nations around the globe," she warned.She also highlighted the successful benchmarking visits by the oil unit under the Presidency to countries such as Guyana, Angola, Norway, an d Algeria. "At my request, the Government of Norway has agreed to provide us with technical support," she added.
