Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Botswana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Lemogang Kwape are undertaking a joint goodwill visit to Kasane on Thursday and Friday.

Kasane is located in the Chobe district in Botswana and shares a border with Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.

In a media statement on Thursday, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation said the aim of the joint visit to the border area is for the two ministers to familiarise themselves with the situation on the ground and to engage communities on the importance of peaceful co-existence and good neighbourliness along the common riverine border.

It said following the visit of Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi to Namibia in January this year, Masisi and President Hage Geingob directed that their foreign ministers undertake a joint visit to the border area.

“The joint visit is also taking place within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on diplomatic consultations between the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Botswana,” the statement added.

It said the deputy prime minister will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Daniel Kashikola; Zambezi Region Governor, Lawrence Sampofu; Councillor for the Kabbe South Constituency, John Likando; Chairperson of the Zambezi Regional Council, Warden Simushi; Namibian High Commissioner to Botswana, Asser Kapere and other senior government officials.
